The Television Garden The Wells Garden The Coxley Garden Landscaping Projects Some Winter ideas Low Maintenance Garden

These are some examples of my work. The garden from which these have been taken was televised  by HTV Television.

The Gardening Team from Roots and Shoots on HTV, came to see how this Garden had been transformed from a field of rabbits to its real interest and beauty today.

I was interviewed on the program as I had been involved in the building of many of the paths, water features and patios. I have also planted the 'Jungle' sections and continue to be very involved with the ongoing maintenance.

The Large Pond

Stream and  waterfall, created with pumps, designed to look as natural as possible with rocks and stones, marginal planting completes the effect.

Borders and Planting

This is a shrub border, planted to give good winter colour and interest. The variations in colour and texture keep the interest of the viewer, as well as being an excellent solution for the 'Low maintenance' Gardener.!

Mature border planted with evergreens and shrubs with variegated foliage achieving maximum colour for the winter months, This type of border is low maintenance, requiring just Autumn shaping and pruning. The foliage of the evergreens suppresses weed growth, but can be combined with a landscape fabric and bark to increase efficiency.

Left - border planted to give winter colour, using some plants already in place and taking out the old woody specimens before interspersing with new shrubs.

The Wells Garden

A steep sloping plot presented a myriad of difficulties, but the differing levels have been incorporated into the plan to make an interesting garden that will develop and mature allowing the owners to enjoy the different areas of calm, shade, sun and scent.

The other end of the garden has been developed to provide a Pergola seating area, and incorporate different planting, with clematis and honeysuckle on the walls and fences. The garden is easy to maintain and safe for children and animals. The water feature bubbles over the stones making a calm  sound after a stressful day. The raised sleeper beds have lights incorporated into them to change the mood of the garden from day to night.

Hillside in Coxley

This is how the garden looked originally. The slope was steep and my clients wanted a low maintenance solution to the long narrow  and  muddy hill they had endured for so long. A Hot Tub was part of the brief

The end of the garden was a particular problem, it was wild and strewn with boulders, rubble and choked with weeds. The transformation into calm tranquility delighted my clients, allowing them a place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, entertain their friends, a lawn for their new baby, or for   pets to enjoy, or simply to have a space of their own to read and contemplate.
Some further views of the details of this garden. Lights have been inset into the borders and the decking to enhance the evening and night enjoyment of the garden. Any of these ideas can be adapted to use in other ways and other designs.

Some detail from a Low Maintenance Garden

The Sleepers, Bark and Decking form different textures and subtle colour tones to enhance the design of this small, low maintenance garden.

Planting is mainly evergreen, with addition of pots and planters of Summer colour.

Gravel Steps, set in an archway.

This design is very  simple, the materials inexpensive. It has been designed with a young child in mind, she can use the hard area for her trike and to stand her sand trolley, the grass to sit and explore the texture. The flower beds she can enjoy and plant. The adults can enjoy a glass of wine!

Below: This was a tiny new garden, solid clay and builders rubble formed the 'soil'. We took most of this away, laid a small lawn for the toddler to run about, an area for a BBQ and a table, the patio has been placed at an angle to maximize the available space, and make best use of the sun.

Garden on a budget, small garden for a young family

Some rich bold planting has given a feeling of maturity to this brand new garden. This effect  has been achieved on a tight budget, it will add value to any home as well as enriching the lifestyle of the owner.
